Sun
California sun
Fine cool breeze and California sun
A perfect contradiction to the mayhem and madness
That expands
After all the late rains
The wildflowers are insane
Actually they’re quite sane come to think of it
And everywhere
There are wildflowers poking up through cracks in the sidewalk
And on Mount Tam
Greenest springtime in recent memory here
Wounded the earth bleeds black...
They turned the sky upside down and water came out
The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain. The rain in California falls whenever and wherever it wants to. It’s pouring here in West Berkeley. In late May! Again. Again! The birds are pleased. Do not say the word “drought” around me, I’ll scream. This is marvelous.

doesn’t love rain
comes back inside

Severe Frank Zappa Mind Bend →
The unrivaled Frank Zappa, made something like 60 full albums in his life. Or was it more? Anyway here’s Zappa’s amazing career, boldly distilled down to a concentrated one hour dose by Joel Selvin. If you wish to remain a normal human being you must avoid listening to this at all costs. Enjoy.
Lovely pop song from a band called Monk →
Don’t usually hear of a lot bands from Austria. But lately the power pop and progressive rock stuff has been coming from new corners of the globe, lots of lesser known towns in Europe and elsewhere. This is something gorgeous, very sweet performance and a great big composition. Hmm, coffee setting in as I try to form first sentences of the day. Anyway, I like this song, that’s all....

Some random Sunday thoughts that have been percolating in my alleged brain ~
My friend cartoonist Shannon Wheeler said on his FB status a while ago that one of the most annoying phrases ever uttered is:
“there’s nothing new under the sun.”
He’s right. It represents the height of dullness, and it’s so not true. I myself made something new just this week. I’ll make another new thing next...

Lost My Falafel
Soon after the Uptones posted “Laws and Sausage” as a free mp3, the perpetually inspired Miss Lisa aka Captive Wild Woman made a lovely video using the song as a soundtrack.
The Uptones - Laws n Sausage from Miss Lisa on Vimeo.
I’m tickled pink of course. Thanks Lisa! <3
Hope you enjoy. And remember, sausages and laws are best observed after they are made.
Chris Weingarten on the state of music journalism →
A hilarious and informative rant from a critic who has had it up to here with blogs.
